Sebastiano

A pioneering scholar in Organizational Neuroscience, Sebastiano is the founding co-chair of the Interest Group in Organizational Neuroscience at the Academy of Management, and the Director of the Organizational Neuroscience Laboratory. Holding a tenured faculty position at the Surrey Business School, he also holds an honorary Associate Professorship at the University of Warwick, where he previously led the University's Global Research Priority in Behavioral Science. Sebastiano has a track record of fellowships and visiting positions in several institutions worldwide.

He is the inaugural PhD graduate of the UCL School of Management. His educational journey includes degrees in Neuroscience from the University of Trieste and the International School of Advanced Studies, in Neuroimaging from the University of Edinburgh, and in Biotechnology for Health from the University of Padova.

RESEARCH

Sebastiano regularly contributes to top-tier scientific journals spanning various disciplines, including Organizational Research Methods, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, the Journal of Business Ethics, and Nature Biotechnology, among others. His research outputs have garnered recognition with five awards from the Academy of Management, and his impactful work frequently gathers attention from international media outlets, underscoring the relevance and significance of his contributions.

His research maps the scholarly boundaries of Organizational Neuroscience and empirically investigates the interplay between affect and cognition in decision-making. Contextually grounded in healthcare, Sebastiano's practitioner-oriented work uses advanced business analytics methodologies to solve practical problems of diagnostic and clinical relevance.


Throughout his career, Sebastiano has cultivated an innovative and dynamic research laboratory, assembling a team of accomplished researchers from diverse disciplinary and cultural backgrounds. His latest works include international collaborations centred on understanding the neural antecedents of entrepreneurial and investing behaviours, leveraging AI and machine learning techniques to address societal challenges, as well as implementing behavioral interventions aimed at enhancing well-being in organizations.

A METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK FOR ORGANIZATIONAL NEUROSCIENCE

Sebastiano has advanced a framework incorporating the use of neuroscience methodologies across several domains of research, including Organizational Behavior, Entrepreneurship, and Strategic Management.

His latest work published in this area provides guidelines aimed to equip entrepreneurship scholars with the fundamentals needed to design and evaluate research involving neuroimaging methods such as fMRI and EEG.

TEACHING AND CONSULTING

Sebastiano teaches at the post-graduate, executive, and doctoral levels. He currently serves as an external examiner for the MBA and EMBA Programmes at the London Business School. He has developed and led both in-person and online courses on advanced quantitative methods, leadership and management, human resources, organizational neuroscience, behavioral science for healthcare, and biotechnology entrepreneurship. 

A keen supervisor, he has advised research students at several Universities as well as students holding managerial positions at organizations such as the National Health Service and the UK Ministry of Justice, among others. His doctoral students have secured placements in top institutions worldwide.

Sebastiano's consulting work focuses on projects that apply neuroscience and behavioral science to optimize organizational decision-making. Sebastiano speaks internationally, and his engagements offer a personalized, research-informed approach that emphasizes the implementation of effective, long-term solutions.
