RESEARCH
- A Journey to Discovery -
Sebastiano’s research is theoretically and methodologically focused on defining the scholarly boundaries of Organizational Neuroscience. Empirically, his projects investigate the interplay between affect and cognition and why and how this influences various types of decision-making, including strategic, moral, and interpersonal, using a variety of advanced methodological tools. Sebastiano has received several awards for his research, and his work continues to appear in world-leading journals across a variety of diverse scientific fields.

* NEW RESEARCH *
INTEROCEPTION AND ALEXITHYMIA
Research on interoceptive abilities (i.e., sensibility, accuracy, and awareness) and their associations with emotional experience has flourished. Yet interoceptive abilities in alexithymia—a personality trait characterized by a difficulty in the cognitive interpretation of emotional arousal, which impacts emotional experience—remain under-investigated, thereby limiting a full understanding of subjective emotional experience processing.
In a paper recently published in Psychological Research together with researchers at the University of Padova, we found that the higher the level of alexithymia in people, the higher interoceptive accuracy and sensibility yet the lower interoceptive awareness – which turns out to be the most accurate predictor of alexithymia. The results suggest that dissociation of interoceptive components may explain the underlying psycho-physiological mechanisms of alexithymia.
